About ELP Engineering

Company history

ELP Engineering Ltd is owned by Edward Hill and Peter Hudson, both qualified engineers in mechanical and electronic engineering respectively.

Ed struggled to find a supplier for a remote control proportional system to retrofit on his Unimog Hiab, so contacted Hetronic and after Ed and Pete both attended a Hetronic training course in Malta we both recognised we could become a distributor so hence Ed and Pete started ELP Engineering Ltd.

Once we installed the system on Ed’s Hiab, and liked it, we recognised that we would need an on / off remote control system to compliment the proportional Hetronic products so we contacted Lodar in Walsall, West Midlands and hence became a distributor.

Since Lodar are the Superwinch distributor for the UK, we're also distributing their products to compliment the Lodar remote controls.

Our intention is to provide a one stop shop for all your radio remote control requirements, using UK companies wherever possible.

We can provide anything from individual components to complete radio remote control systems, including hydraulic components, accessories and winches.

Since setting up ELP Engineering, we have branched out into providing companies that supply products into JCB with a warranty vetting service. We work with the supplier to enable them to meet the stringent warranty process. We have the facility to test electrical / electronic components, with suitably qualified and experienced employees to carry out the testing and provide reports following due process.

We are based in the Midlands, near Alton Towers and JCB headquarters and we pride ourselves on the ‘can do’ attitude that Edward and Peter instil in all their employees, which in turn means that all our clients receive an unrivalled level of service that others struggle to emulate.

Directors' history:

Edward and Peter met working on adjacent farms in 1986, and in 1990 attended agricultural college together. After going separate ways, both decided to become engineers in the mid 1990s in their respective fields.

After being employed by CAT and JCB Edward became a freelance mechanical engineer in 2005. Peter became a freelance electronic engineer in 2006 after being employed by Genrad and Jaguar Land Rover.

Both directors have a wealth of experience of operating and owning farm, construction and forestry machinery to this present day.

Edward has a 1st BEng (Hons) in mechanical engineering, is the inventor of two patents for JCB, and has designed construction equipment for JCB and Caterpillar, the majority of the time from a clean sheet of paper, and seen it through to production.

He has designed components for Rolls Royce Aerospace and worked on many interesting projects for BAE Systems and Babcock International.

Peter has a BEng (Hons) in electronic and electrical engineering and has designed electronic systems for Jaguar Land Rover, Delphi, and JCB. Peter is named on the patent for the Jaguar rotary transmission selector seen on all Jaguar cars since 2006, and designed the electronic immobiliser for JCB.

Peter has many years of experience developing complex electronic systems, CAN bus and J1939 systems from component to system level using the design processes needed by the leading blue-chip companies like Jaguar Land Rover and JCB to produce highest quality products right first time.
